hi,im on win98,when IE browser opens,it says an error - that it has encountered a problem,so option to send or not an error report to the server,after which irrespective of whether i click send or don't send

,,the browser window closes and a new browswer window opens with the same error.This keeps repeating itself.This has happened after = uninstalling

I think you are in a hurry and enter details in java applet windows before the the applet has even started. Therefore you may tell us at what point you get these errors? Be patient and wait sometime before entering details like password etc. in browser windows. Most of these are started java applets for security.
first thing is to upgrade to winblows 98 se, then either switch to firefox or download IE 6.
Probably you are affected some way with a spayware or virus, the best way is to install windows again and setup your antivirus directly after that, and it will be good to do that without active internet connection.

boot in safe mode and then download AVG, Combofixer.exe, and Spybot s %26d. Then scan in safe mode. Then clean your disk by using the disk clean feature, you internet temp files can be harmful.

The problem you have is pretty common with symantec and mcaffe security suites. You need to completely remove them. First click start, then click search, then click all files and folders. In the box that asks for a file name type in SYMANTEC. When the files come up delete them all manually. Then do another searh on files named NORTON. Again delete them all manually. Chances are if you don't completely remove them all from your system it may continue to cause the conflict. After you remove them all you should be able to download any other security utility you need to protect your computer, provided of course Norton didn't protect you from viruses to begin with which is more likely the case. If your subscription runs out, you can still use the product to the level of protection its at when it runs out. You just won't be elidgeable for updates to the product, so no immunity to new viruses that come out as of the day the product runs out.

There is a free downloadable anti-virus called AVG, which is searchable through google. Its just as good as Norton or Mcaffee, but you have to perform manual updates on it, so if you don't have time to update this shouldn't be for you, as laziness would compromise your security.

Free ones from your bank would be absolutely fine, any anti virus you get, even if basic, will self update and will give you up to date protection against the latest viruses and trojans.

That's the same stuff I have and my computer is fine. Definitely download zonealarm. I really like it. I also have Avast-antivirus, which is really nice. If I get a virus it's able to notice it right away.

Norton is a fine program but it will require loads of system resources and memory. Make sure you have at least 1gb of ram. Zone alarm is a great free firewall. I currently have two virus programs, software firewall, hardware firewall, spybot and windows defender... there is no such thing as over kill when it comes to your personal pc.. good luck

ok Here's what you do: First download AVG and AD-Aware to your desktop, but do NOT install it yet. Then disconnect your internet connection (this is to keep you secure). Then go to add/remove programs and uninstall Norton Internet Security, piece by piece (there are several Norton items listed, you will have to uninstall one at a time). It should work fine regardless of your internet provider. How do you say yo KNOW there is a virus? If your computer is running slow, etc, a virus isn't always the culprit.

I have a laptop with Windows XP Pro. I only had a free antivirus program installed. My wife recently went to a music download site and the laptop has now been completely hijacked. Internet Explorer windows start popping up as soon as I boot up. It won't connect to my wireless network and is slow as a snail. Progams are getting installed automatically and there are icons all over the desktop. I downloaded Spybot and ran several scans, but it's not helping much. Almost the same thing happened to my computer. Depending on where your wife went, it could've been just a virus site where they "pretend" to give out music. if you're downloading programs such as Spybot it won't help. sometimes those are fake. since you have mostly no programs on there, try reformating your computer, i reformated mine and it really helps! but remember to back up all of your files. I had my broadband installed last Monday, and Norton 2006 was included in the package.

Before I was running on AVG free antivirus and Ad-aware. The PC was running very fast then.

I installed Norton and everything was so slow. Now it is beginning to be so slow I can't do anything without a huge delay. Even when I am typing this it appears later than what it should!

My PC has a gig RAM, and 160 gig HDD.

Any alternatives to Norton? I worried that if I uninstall it that my protection will go as I keep my PC on continuously.

Will turning to an alternative be worth my while? I just want to gain back the speed of my computer!

Go back to avg, or try Avast which I use. Ad Aware is what I use also. I havnt gone for the Norton AV package, and Im on BT.

I had the same problem - norton was making everything really slow and my bf took them all off last night. Today its much quicker. In add/remove their wasn't anything saying norton to remove but if you look at the properties of each thing in remove the ones with 'symantic' are the norton files. Takes ages to take them all off but its much better once they've gone. Good luck xxx
I would try uninstalling norton first and see if your pc speeds back up. If it does...just go back to AVG again. If it does not speed up, could be something else on the pc causing it and you may want to then do a full system scan.
